Gurgaon is a city that makes the middle class feel poor. To be very honest, unless you are making at least 1 lakh rupees a month combining your salaries, there's no point in moving to Gurgaon. Everything about Gurgaon is the worst! I guess after Mumbai, real estate prices in Gurgaon are the highest in the country! Your cost of living is going to shoot up, and with an 87,000 rupees salary, even though you could live luxuriously in a Tier-II city, you will barely be able to make ends meet in Gurgaon.
I stay with my wife in a tiny 1-BHK within walking distance of my wife's workplace. I work from home, and she walks to her office. We don't go to the movies or go anywhere for fun - yes, we watch movies on OTT and order food once a week. We don't even have a maid! Yet, our monthly expenses are around 70 to 75 thousand rupees a month! We do not have any EMIs either. This is only on monthly expenses. Still, we don't have a maid, daily commute expenses, or children.
If you are shifting to Gurgaon, be ready to spend at least 25 to 35 thousand rupees a month for your rent on a 1-BHK. If you are planning to get a 2-BHK, that could go up to 45 thousand rupees. Then if you spend 100 rupees each way for your daily commute, you and your wife's combined commute expenses will be 8,000 rupees a month! Then you have groceries, entertainment, food orders at times, OTT subscriptions, repairs and maintenance, etc.
Electricity rates are set at a flat rate between 10 and 12 rupees per unit by the landlords. So expect to spend at least 4,000 to 5,000 rupees a month for electricity with judicious use of the AC during the summers. Maid prices are quite high in Gurgaon. Depending on the chores you'd need, it could range between 3 to 6 thousand rupees a month! With 87 thousand rupees a month, you might be able to make ends meet, but without any scope for savings or investments. And I am not even considering any monthly EMIs that you might be clearing.
If I were you, I wouldn't have moved to Gurgaon with that salary. If you are moving to the worst city to live in India, where the cost of living is sky-high, where the air is the most polluted in the world, where summers touch 50 degrees and winters reach 0 degrees, where dust storm in a common phenomenon and the roads get waterlogged after 10 minutes of rain, where road rage is a common sight, and infrastructure is the worst, your salary better justify the move!
