An MBBS from a private college is definitely for rich people, but this is not the case with government colleges.
My madam completed her MBBS in 2025, and we have been together since before she took admission in the government medical college. She comes from a lower-middle-class family, like most of us. Her college fees were covered by the MP government under the Medhavi Yojana, on the condition that she would serve in rural areas for two years.
So she only had to manage her monthly expenses, which were not much since she stayed in the college hostel.
Even without the Medhavi Scholarship, the fees are roughly ₹1 lakh per year. Many of her batchmates paid this amount by taking loans, which they can easily repay once they start earning. Yes, there may be some students from extremely poor backgrounds, but it is still manageable if they get admission to a GMC through NEET.
