These are the most discriminated against despite being a gentle breed?

These are the most discriminated against despite being a gentle breed?

Ah well it depends on the shock tactics of the day, see if a dalmation bites someone it ain't newsworthy, if it's a rottie or a pit bull then of course these are the most vicious. Which is complete nonsense.

1970's-80's It was..

Dobie.

Round about the 90's this dog got the ‘evil bastard’ treatment…

Rottie. Known a few rotties and all of them family pets. These days..pitbulls obviously…the most gentle dog i’ve ever known was a pitbull rescue (american pitbull not a mix or staffie) (would take a wollop from my at times bratty 2 year old and could be 100% trusted with children as he carried the most gentle face and body language at all times.) (of course I wouldn’t let her do that i’d just catch it randomly) Most other dogs would be nippy at times with pushy kids or atleast resist them and huff and puff. My sheltie I grew up was a little monster and would attack visciously and make me bleed just for touching her sometimes and try to kill you over taking the rotten food she stole from the garbage. This dog never barked or growled or showed his teeth once-was kind with other dogs always, and even with my pet rat, and came from an abusive home (he had a huge scar across his throat likely from where a collar dug in and would cower when i came up to him the first month I had him) so I know it wasn’t because he was just treated with kindness. His heart was pure. The only time he wasn’t his usual gentle self is one time when my partner was harassing me and screaming in my face and this pup gave him one small chomp on the butt to tell him to stop. Strangers would cross the street to avoid him by his look and take their dogs out of the dog park within minutes of me bringing him in (other than some people and one who let my baby play with her little dog and they of course got along just fine exploring together), and no boarding kennel anywhere in the area would take pitbills (which ultimately lead to his death as he got off leash when a friend was watching him and got hit by a car) but he is one I’ll always have close in my heart for being such a good boy til the end.

In the 00's well we all know the bad rep that continues to pursue these guys…

Bull mastiff. This is an English bull mastiff one of the big breeds and although they appear intimidating they have no business appearing on the list of dangerous evil bastards. They are gentle animals that only wish to please, superb family dogs.

And of course..

Pit bull. Know a couple of these beauties too, never witnessed any type of vicious behaviour.

It's not the dog that's the problem.

The other day I saw a bright blue Bentley, I thought it was such a strange but great colour, now I'm seeing that colour everywhere.

See statistics that say certain dogs are dangerous are brought about by those dubious folk looking for incidents and ignoring others, for every pit bull bite I bet twice as many people get a nip from a Jack Russell but Jacks are small and cute it ain't news is it.

Just my opinion but there are two words missing from every bleating curse of these particular animals…’Personal responsibility'

Nanny dogs" and “sweet little pibbles" notwithstanding -- anyone who understands the least little thing about breeding animals knows that animals bred for specific traits will EXHIBIT THOSE TRAITS. Any specific dog might not hew to the traits of that breed, but in general, herding dogs will herd, water dogs will get wet, guard dogs will guard, and fighting dogs will attack and maul.

Making up only about 6% of the dog population, sweet little pibbles killed 284 Americans between 2005 and 2017 -- 65% of the dog-related deaths.

The Kangal is a breed of large livestock guardian dog originating from the Sivas province of Turkey. They are calm and independent but very powerful.

3. Rottweiler - I find them hella cute. I once met a rottie from Germany and their photos don’t do justice to their size. The rottie I met was so calm and friendly but that’s how he is trained to be. In a documentary I had seen once, rottweilers are one of the breeds with the highest jaw strength and force. Which means if a rottie catches hold of you with their teeth then good luck!

Presa Canario - They look intimidating and are really powerful. If you have seen the movie “Bullet Head” you will truly feel fear when you see a Canario. But then again, they act all tough but are someone’s furry baby too! :)

Tosa Inu - They are a Japanese fighting dog and massive in size.

There are several other dogs like Akita Inu, Staffordshire Terriers (type of Pit bull), German Shepherds, Dogo Argentino, Mastiffs, Cane Corso and Wolf Hybrids known to be aggressive guard dogs but I have not added them to my list since some of them are highly misunderstood as dangerous dog breeds

Here's Time Magazine quoting the Annals of Surgery: “one person is killed by a pit bull every 14 days, two people are injured by a pit bull every day, and young children are especially at risk.”

This is a death toll in North America larger than sharks, bears, mountain lions and wolves COMBINED.

It's not all about death. Those who survive pit bull attacks are left more severely injured than victims of other dogs. Children mauled by pits can be so horribly disfigured they can never again lead normal lives.

But the full picture of the poor “discriminated against" pit bulls covers more than attacks on humans. There are also pets and livestock to consider.

The breed is the number one killer of other people's pets and farm animals. In 2017, pitties killed 13,000 dogs, 5,000 cats and 20,000 horses (!!) and other farm animals.

In 2019, pit bulls accounted for 91% of all reported fatal attacks on other animals, 91% of all fatal attacks on other dogs, 76% of all fatal dog attacks on cats, and 82% of all fatal dog attacks on other pets, poultry and hoofed species.

Wanna know the really ironic thing? Pit bull cheerleaders get A MILLION PIT BULLS A YEAR KILLED. They die alone and afraid in shelters across the country … not because of haters, but because of people who SAY they love them.

Pibble lovers never quit pitching them as “the nanny dog" and sweet little defenseless family pets. They pose as big-hearted and open-minded lovers of dogs, free from the horrible prejudices of the haters.

The result is, they convince millions of others to emulate them. “I want a pit bull to show people what a good person I am! I'm not one of those mean-spirited people who can't be bothered to really know how wonderful pibbles are!”

Breeders crank puppies out by the millions, and people who have no idea what it takes to take care of a big, strong dog -- no idea of the time, the money, the trouble, the COMMITMENT -- they buy them. They take them home. They show them off, they brag about how wonderful and gentle they are … and, coincidentally, what wonderful people THEY are for owning them.

And then it gets to be too much. They don't have the time to walk them. They move into a new apartment that doesn't allow pets. A new baby comes along. They want to go on vacation and there's nobody to watch the dog. The dog keeps having accidents while they're away at work. The vet bills are more than they can afford. Their sweet little pibble kills the neighbor's cat, or mauls the lady at the dog park as she tries to protect her little pug.

And then all those pit bull LOVERS dump their dogs at the shelter.

The pro-pit organization Save-a-Bull estimates that, in the U.S. alone, a million pit bulls a year are put to death in shelters. The dogs are not there because of pit bull haters. They are there because people who say they love them PUT THEM THERE.

Anyone who knows anything about dogs, anyone who truly loves and understands dogs, knows what goes on in their heads after they're abandoned at a shelter:

“Where's my family? Why did they leave me here? When are they coming back for me? Please, please come get me. I don't like it here -- the floor is cold and hard and the people are scary. I'll be good, I promise. I won't pee on the floor even if you leave me inside all day. Please, mom and dad, come get me. Pleeease! I'm so afraid.”

Finally a guy drags them out with a cable around their necks. Terrified, whimpering, screaming, fighting, they are dragged out of the overcrowded kennel and killed. Their lifeless bodies are thrown into a dumpster out back, then later taken to the dump to rot.

Meanwhile, back home with the new baby, the new apartment, Mom and Dad briefly entertain the happy fantasy that their precious pet found a good, loving family, and never give him another thought.
