From Marginal Farmers to Dairy Entrepreneurs: How Two Brothers Built a Successful Dairy Brand

In a small village in Punjab, two brothers transformed their lives through determination, family unity, and entrepreneurship. What started as a modest dairy farming venture has grown into a successful dairy processing business generating monthly sales of over ₹27 lakh.

The brothers, Jasveer Singh and Sukhdev Singh, came from a farming family with only about two acres of land. For years, their family depended on traditional agriculture and a small dairy operation. After retiring from the Indian Army in 2015, Jasveer joined his brother in expanding their dairy activities.

Initially, the family started with just four buffaloes. Over time, they increased their herd and focused on milk production. The turning point came when they attended dairy development seminars and training programs, where they learned about the potential of value-added dairy products such as curd, paneer, ghee, butter, and khoya.

Inspired by this knowledge, the family decided to establish a modern milk processing unit. Instead of spending a large amount of money to send their children abroad for education, they invested nearly ₹1 crore into building their own dairy business. Part of the funding came through a government-supported loan scheme, while the remaining amount was arranged through family, friends, and well-wishers.

The processing plant began operations in August 2025 under the brand name "Milko Fort." Equipped with modern dairy-processing infrastructure, the unit initially processed only around 200 litres of milk per day. Within nine months, daily processing increased to approximately 1,500 litres as customer demand continued to rise.

Today, the business produces a variety of dairy products, including curd, paneer, desi ghee, cream, butter, khoya, and traditional nutritional foods. The family places a strong emphasis on quality, testing every batch of milk before processing and maintaining all required food safety certifications.

The success of the venture is largely due to the involvement of the entire family. Parents, spouses, sons, and daughters all contribute to different aspects of production, operations, marketing, and distribution. The business has also embraced digital marketing, receiving orders through dealers, social media platforms, and messaging applications.

Despite achieving impressive sales growth and profitability, the family remains focused on repaying loans and expanding the business further. Their journey demonstrates how rural entrepreneurs can create sustainable livelihoods by combining modern technology, skill development, and value addition in agriculture.

This inspiring story highlights an important lesson: with vision, continuous learning, and family support, even small farmers can build successful enterprises and create opportunities within their own communities.
