Srilanka is my answer. It is a beautiful clean country. Srilanka is like Kerala but with lot more Buddhism and definitely very beautiful. Srilanka has a bit of everything with national wildlife parks, mountain peaks, idyllic beaches, earliest civilization ruins, whale watching. You can get a visa for 900Rs. Srilankans are super friendly and genuinely some of the most heart warming nicest people I know professionally and personally.
Travelling around Srilanka is dirt cheap. We have used Ist, IInd and IIIrd class trains, local buses, autos, taxis, boats on our Srilanka trip. Visited - Colombo, Galle, Mirissa, Welligama, Sigiriya, Dambulla and Kandy. It was one of the most fun trips.
Flights to Srilanka are pretty cheap at about Rs.10k return trip for 1 adults from Bangalore (2 adults is twice as much). Stay can start around 2–4k depending on your spending appetite and food is very cheap as well. There are 5 star hotels like Hilton for 8–10k per day. Srilanka is very sea food oriented culture but there are delicious baked goods and fresh fruit juices everywhere (I mean everywhere!).
Below Photos are from Google search and don’t belong to me. This is for representing the places that we have visited. Prices are in Srilankan Rs. and possibly increased.
Sigiriya: Rock Fortress Ruins: Awesome view from the top in all directions. Entry fee about Rs. 1800 pp for SAARC visitors (Need Passport for validation)
Dambulla: Extensive Cave paintings. Entry fee: About Rs.500–750 pp for SAARC visitors (Need Passport for validation)
Kandy: Temple of the Tooth, About Rs. 500 pp for SAARC visitors (Need Passport for validation)
Heritance Kandalama: The product of renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. Lunch for 2 costs Rs. 2000–3000.
Mountain Train to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella. Rs. 1400 pp for 1st class, Rs. 400 pp for II class, Rs. 200 pp for III Class.
The devil’s masks - We bought one. They come in various sizes and designs including friendly smiling ones. These can vary from Rs. 500 to Rs. 10000 (Very large ones)
Colombo (Free entry in many places)
Bentota Turtle Hatchery and Conservation. About Rs. 500
Stilt Fishing - Southern Coastal areas around Galle, Galle Fort. Free to see
Mirissa whale watching tour. About Rs. 4500 pp after negotiation
Riding the train in Srilanka on the southern coast. (Approx Rs. 200-400 pp from Colombo to Galle). The train tracks are next to waves and that is one amazing experience.
Edit: My article is considered from the Southern States in India. As many have pointed, your current location changes the prices and from the North would be Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh approximately at about the same costs.
