Regardless of his policies, do you think Obama legitimately cared about America?

Short Answer: Of course he did.

Longer Answer: I am a Conservative Republican and I’d like to go far beyond the scope of your question here. I believe almost every United States citizen legitimately cares about the United States and I believe every president in the history of our country legitimately cared about it. I do not think anyone would take the job unless they did as it takes a toll on their health, places their family's and their own lives at risk and it degrades their quality of life. I do not think any US President ever did it just for the money, heck most US Presidents went into the job wealthy, to begin with. I guess a president may be interested in having the power that comes with the job but that power comes with such great responsibility.

Here is a comparison of how young President Obama looked at the start of his first term compared to how he looked the day he left office,

obviously he looks older but it's not just that, he looks wore down, exhausted as if part of him was sucked out during his 8-year stint. This is an incredibly taxing way of life.

A president knows going into the job a large portion of the world is going to hate them when they leave because, to be honest about it, no matter what a president does, half of us are probably going to be disappointed and think they did a crummy job.

But at the soul of your question, it is not just the President of the United States that cares about the country, almost every United States citizen legitimately cares.

These people care about the country they live in

as much as these 30,000 people that gather every Sunday to pray.

We may all want different things and we might all want the country to move in different directions but other than a very small portion of the populace, most of us are proud to be Americans and happy we live in the United States.

Note: Unfortunately I've had to disable comments for my answer due to a string of recent comments which I believe are coming from the same person or persons with multiple accounts they use to flame answers they disagree with. I have enjoyed the dialogues I've had with many people in the comments section, the civility even when we disagree on the substance has given me hope.
