I would like to leave Chennai behind and settle down maybe in a place with less heat and humidity where getting your water from the lorry is not a feeling of heavy relief.
However if i was told - I would never visit again - Then NO.
You see - I was born in Chennai and have spent 44 of my 63 Years here. I was born in Chennai, was schooled in Chennai, enjoyed the 4 AM Bajjis at 25 Paise and Masala Dosas at 35 Paise at Triplicane Ratna Cafe, Watched many many movies in Shanthi or Albert or Galaxy.
I have walked every day for many years for my morning walks - either in Marina Beach or Elliotts Beach in Besant Nagar.
I still have nostalgia for Besant Nagar where i lived for 9 years of my life (1996–2005) and where every evening i would walk along elliotts beach and have chicken cutlets at the Cozee restaurant run by a Sardar who actually starred in the movie Baasha (The Sardar who was ‘Singh’ was the owner of Cozee and he sadly passed a decade or so ago)
I still have the greatest memories of Dr. S Ekambaram- the greatest pediatrician in my opinion who treated both my sons in their early years (Before Parkinsons got to him). He had a clinic in Mandaveli. You just dont see Doctors like that anymore.
And nearly 80% of all my relatives live in Chennai. Many of my friends and colleagues from SBI and CBI live in Chennai. Many of my cop friends have settled down in Chennai - even a Person who is originally from UP but speaks tamil as good as natives do.
So leaving Chennai to settle down somewhere else is a good option, leaving India to settle down somewhere else is a better option but at the end of the day - when you dont have the option to come back - it is not quite worth it.
This is my Home. All my memories are here. Being forced to cut it off seems cruel to me.
