I have started Meditation yet, it really works for me.
I have been studying this for a while.
It is true that some people have made them out to be better than they are. I would never believe it them curing illnesses or anything like that without official evidence. I do believe in them helping with stress, anxiety, sleep issues, confidence boosting, stimulating for exercise and other similar stuff.
I create and post them online for the sole purpose of letting people test and try them out. It's not like a drug trial because there is virtually no risk and if they don't work, no one has lost anything.
The way I do it is research on a particular area of brainwaves, find out what it should do theoretically and create one with that frequency. I post it online with a name of what it is supposed to do, but always state that it is only experimental and may not have “the desired effect”.
It is true that they alter the brainwaves. If you want your brain to produce delta waves for getting into a deep stage of sleep, you can do that.
The problem is that they can only work as well as the person can let them work.
If you have any distractions, are thinking about other things or can't handle the noise of th beat, you will probably not be able to experience the full benefit. Even those conditions alone, may not work for some people. I found out how to let them work for myself, I have had many benefits from using them, but they are all completely subjective.
Other factors which may cause them to work differently is certain medical conditions, like if you are partially deaf or have over sensitive hearing.
It is always best, if you have any doubt, speak with a doctor and make sure they won't hurt your health in any way. A fast-paced beat, in the high beta range for example, could cause someone with a weak heart to become more at risk of a heart attack, since it is like walking briskly or suffering mild anxiety in terms of how the heart responds.
The promising stuff you talk about on the net, is just like many other good things which are hyped up to either be better than they are or do things they can't do. Too many perfectly good products have been given a bad name through that.
My main point is, test them out and see how they work for you, give them a fair shot too. Start with something simple, like a stress relief or sleep beat. If they work for you, good.
Hope this answers your question
EDIT: I would like to state that the binaural beats I post online are completely free. I don't charge for them because I honestly do not know how effective they will be, it is different for everyone and I only want to provide them so people can experiment themselves. Example, if you suffer from stress or mild anxiety, rather than going straight to medication (some of which are addictive and can be costly depending on what country you live in) you can test out the binaural beats and maybe avoid using medications like benzodiazepines and beta blockers (all of which can have undesired side-effects). I would never recommend stopping any medication your doctor has prescribed without discussing it with them first, that could be life threatening.
