World Water Day was started in 1992, at the Rio de Janeiro United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. It was finalized that the March 22 date will be celebrated as World Water Day to keep initiating new ideas to save the water and to save the planet. The first World Water Day was held on the following year and it has continued ever since. On this day, UN plans to make communities across the world aware everyone about the importance of freshwater. On this day people should realize the global crisis of water and stop polluting the same by throwing plastic waste and other pollutant materials. World will not run out of water. But gradually natural water resources such as lakes, reservoirs and rivers are getting chocked with debris and plastics and due to this we will run out of potable water.

As we all know about 70% of earth is covered with water and about 95% water is found in sea. Only about 3% of water is fresh water and only 0.3% water is surface water found in lakes and rivers. About 30% of 3% is found as ground water rest in glaciers and icecaps.

We are mostly dependent on 0.3% surface water and in recent past ground water is exploited beyond repairs. This ground water is stored in the ground for centuries and we have exhausted all ground water which is within reach.

Due to continuous exploitation of surface water and ground water for industrial purposes, irrigation and unplanned utilisation we are finding shortages in potable water. Apart from this most importantly, the source of surface water is used as waste dumping places.

As we can see most of the water bodies have become the dumping yards, all the city waste, industrial wastes joins these places and gradually becomes non potable. The over usage of chemical fertilisers is another reason for water getting contaminated. The plastic menace, the plastic water bottles have added to the problems.

Due to deforestation, the rain water is joining the oceans thus reducing the quantum of infiltration and available useful surface water.

Though the quantity of water has not reduced, our activities have made it look like reduced. We have made it dirty, non potable and useless for human consumption.

Drinking water from packaged bottles is no more a sign of development. If we plan and distribute the available resources in a judicious way and stop polluting the sources, we will not run out of water. Desalination is not a solution.

Our ancestors were conservative, they worshipped natural resources as God and used all the resources as per their minimum requirements. They never exploited, they were not greedy, they saved them for the future generations. Where as we present generation are utilising all resources as if there is no tomorrow. Want to become rich by whatever means, beg, borrow or steal. If we continue with this attitude, the World will run out of all resources, Flora, Fauna, water and greens.

Give our Mother Earth a New lease of life. Help her to survive so that you can survive.

World water day is celebrated every year on march 22nd to create awareness and opportunity to learn more about water related issues and make a difference, create impact to take an action on conserving water. The first water day is held on 22nd march, 1993.

It is very important to recognize water day. To understand that we need to understand how water plays a vital role in our daily lives. This day is about appreciating how important this natural resource in our life.

In highly developed countries, it’s estimated that the average person uses between 100- 250 liters of safe water/day for basic things like drinking, cooking, flushing toilets, laundry, bathing, cleaning, watering garden etc, That’s more than 10 times as much water being used/day than in some underdeveloped countries. And that’s before factoring in agricultural and industrial usage.

While we may be conscious of our water consumption, and in turn make responsible choices to help conserve water - like turning the faucet off while we brush our teeth, taking shorter showers, and investing in water efficient appliances - we rarely take the time to truly appreciate how much water factors into so many elements of our day-to-day lives.

World Water Day is a great time to be conscious of how much water we use every day, and recognize how fortunate we are to have it at our disposal. And, in turn, be concious of how access to clean and safe water positively affects our lives, our economies, and our societies.

Because for one in every nine people around the world, basic water usage simply doesn’t factor into their day-to-day activities and their limited to non-existent access to safe and clean water affects their lives negatively, limiting economic opportunities and greatly increasing health risks.

Watch a short video about the importance of the water below.

So, let’s join our hands together to create awareness about the water to reach maximum number of people.

World Water Day is an annual UN observance day that shows the importance of water. This is world day to remember about importance of water for living things. It’s celebrated around the world with various type of events (educational, musical, seminars, rallies etc.) 22nd March 2018 was celebrated as world water day. The theme was “nature for water”. Floods, drought and water pollution are all made worse by degraded vegetation, soil, rivers and lakes. Nature based potential solutions can help us overcome the crisis. River water usage by connecting flooded rivers with water scarce rivers is one of the solution for the same. Another solution might be to plan for rain water harvesting. Doing this will maintain water re balance thus helping us in improving livelihood and human life style.

Though not linked directly to this, but my family kicked off one noble initiative of water donation to street people. We have a RO at our homes, or atleast the water TDS for domestic water is maintained below 400ppm. The theme for 2020 is "Water and Climate Change" and explores how the two issues are inextricably linked. In light of the growing coronavirus pandemic in 2019 and 2020, the 2020 campaign also promoted messages around handwashing and hygiene and gave guidance on staying safe while supporting the campaign.

The body composition of water:

15. It improves blood oxygen circulation. Water carries helpful nutrients and oxygen to your entire body.

16. It helps fight off illness, Drinking enough water can help prevent certain medical conditionsTrusted Source. These include:

The day is used to advocate for the feasible management of water resources.
More wastage of water leads to a dangerous situation. Misuse of water is vent a deadly water crisis. Everyone must attempt and reform own self to overcome this menace.

Tips for water saving that may help for feasible management of water resources.

Saint dr. gurmeet ram Rahim Singh ji insan gives various tips to conserve water in homes as well as in farming. Following guru ji‘s tips million Dera followers have been doing their bit to save water.

1. Store Rain Water:-

Rain water harvesting and gives techniques to build ponds in farmlands for storing rain water

2. Use cups/containers to brush teeth:-

Urges to use cups/containers to brush teeth/shave, instead of using running tap water

3. Bathing water reusing Techinque:-

The water used for bathing can be used for plants after slightly filtering it through concrete bed.
(Simple way to conserve water. Make a pit near your bathroom and put some concrete and then gravel and then send over it. This way you can filter the water used for bathing and can reuse it for growing vegetables.)

4. Planting Tree to save Ground water

Trees and natural vegetation are important element in maintaining ground water levels through percolation. Dera sacha sauda plants millions of trees & this was helped improve the ground water levels.

Saint Dr MSG and Honeypreet Insan had invited on World Toilet Day by @UNbecause of these great steps toward natural resources.

The World Water Day programme is basically a part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) which is set by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in 2015. These are majorly 17 global goals that the UNGA is focusing on and planning to achieve by 2030 for a sustainable future. World Water Day falls under SDG 6, which ensures access to water and sanitation. According to the UN, World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. To focus on the importance of freshwater, the United Nations marks March 22 every year as World Water Day. The theme of World Water Day 2021 is “Valuing Water”.

The World Water Day is celebrated on 22 March every year since 1993. This day comes in as a reminder that we need to save our freshwater resources. This day focuses our attention on the importance of these freshwater resources. This day urges us to become more aware of the global water crisis and thus act more responsibly. We are in a water shortage! The available freshwater is under severe pressure and the climate change is making things worse. Our water is polluted, it’s turning more saline and on the verge of depleting. One day there would be no more water and that day can be very near. The matter is in our own hands!

World Water Day 2022 Theme - #Water2me

Every year has a theme and World Water Day 2021 is about what water means to people, its true value to them and how we can better protect this vital resource for generations to come.
