Well, there have been reports and several opinions on social media that Afghanistan cricket team was not being sponsored by the present Taliban government in Afghanistan and them Mohammad Nabi, the ex-captain of the team came forward to help the team with his personal money. If these reports are at all true, I think this was a great gesture from Mohammad Nabi who showed the love for his country and cricket team before the money he had. This is believable as well because Mohammad Nabi is the captain of the team in the tournament.

Honestly, it takes a lot of courage to spend one’s personal money for the cricket team he may not see any returns. In such a case, I would have wished Afghanistan to qualify for the knockout matches, but since Pakistan has already qualified and there is only one spot left, I just wish they do better in tournaments after this. Mohammad Nabi has served as a captain from the very beginning of the team and is still a part of the team. I think he did really well to help his team with the money in these times.

However harsh it may sound but yes, it is true. Under the Taliban rule, Afghanistan has undergone massive reforms. While watching televisions is banned under the Taliban regime, it seems that they are reluctant to sponsor their national cricket team either. It isn’t that the Taliban is against the players playing the game of cricket; only women are banned from playing but still, they didn’t sponsor for the tournament which shows the extent of the misery of the citizens and the players of the country.

Therefore, Mohammad Nabi stepped up and decided to sponsor the flight tickets, hotel stay, kits and all other expenses during the tournament for the Afghan team from his own pocket. The news has been confirmed by several media channels as well. Even then, when provoked during a press conference, he didn’t badmouth the government back in their country.

Instead of sponsoring money, the Taliban has additionally warned the players not to get emotional during the National Anthem which is played before the start of the match
