Mercury Continues to Rise in Himachal Pradesh Una hottest at 42 deg C

The MeT office has issued a yellow warning of thunderstorm, hailstorm and lightning in Chamba and Kangra district from February 24 to 26, Bilaspur and Kullu districts on February 25 and 26, Hamirpur on February 24 and 26, Una and Sirmaur districts on February 26 and Solan district on February 24 and also predicted rain and snow at isolated places in mid and higher hills for next six days from February 23 to 28.

The day temperature rose to 29.6 degree Celsius at Una, six degree above normal, while Kalpa and Shimla and Bhuntar recorded a high of 17.5 degree, 20.9 degree and 26.2 degree eleven, nine degree and eight degree above normal.

The minimum temperature rose by few notches and Shimla recorded the night temperature at 11.5 degree, eight degree above normal, while Nahan was hottest during the night with 15.3 degree, seven degree above normal. Keylong was coldest at night with a low of 0.2 degree. — TNS


Shimla, May 24 (PTI) Temperatures continued to rise in parts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday and Una was the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological centre here said.

Notwithstanding the MeT office warning of hailstorm, thunderstorm and lightning at several places in mid and lower hills of the state, the minimum and maximum temperature continued to rise and stayed four to eleven degree above normal.

Most other parts of the state recorded temperatures above the 30-degree mark.

Una recorded the highest temperature in the hill state at 42 degrees Celsius, Shimla Meteorological Centre director Manmohan Singh said.

Bilaspur recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, followed by 40.8 in Hamirpur, 38.8 in Sundernagar, 37.2 in Nahan, 37 in Kangra, 35.9 in Chamba, 34.8 in Solan, 31.6 in Dharamshala and 31 in Palampur, he said.

Tourist places Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie and Kufri recorded maximum temperatures of 27.9, 26.8, 23 and 19.8 degrees Celsius respectively.

The mercury settled at 19 degrees Celsius in tribal district Lahaul-Spiti's administrative centre Keylong and Kinnaur's Kalpa recorded a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius. PTI DJI CK
