When Black Widow exposed SHIELDs secrets on the internet
I think this is the most ignored scene in the entire MCU while being the most pivotal point in Phase 2. Why is it pivotal?
- 1. It ended SHIELD
Pierce: “Are you ready for the world to see you for who you really are?”
Natasha: “Are you?”
She flooded the internet with all of Hydra & SHIELDs secrets. Meaning everything. Every file they had, every single detail they had in their database. Thus making SHIELD an organization that could no longer operate in the shadows. Since SHIELD was actually just Hydra, it ended. Without SHIELD, it gives Stark more motivation to create Ultron
- 2. It is why the Avengers knew about the Hydra base
Ever wondered why the film starts with the Avengers taking down a Hydra base? After Hydra was exposed all of the Hydra channels were exposed including the location of a secret Hydra base that was no longer a secret.
- 3. It is the reason Ultron knew everything about the Avengers
“He’s in your files, he’s in the internet. What if he decides to access something a little more exciting?"
"Nuclear codes”
Ultron learned about the Avengers & he disapproved of them & how they operated. He saw all of SHIELDs secrets & he may have saw a lot of dark things. He knew everything about Natasha, Banner, Steve, Clint, Tony, etc.
- 4. It is the reason Ultron knew to get Vibranium from Ulysses Klaue
“I am NOTHING like Stark”
Ultron goes searching for Vibranium to build himself a new body, but how does Ultron know about Vibranium. He learned through their files & according to the SHIELD & CIA databases, Klaue stole all of Wakanda’s vibranium making them a 3rd world country (which was a lie). So where did Ultron go? To Ulysses Klaue
- 5. It is how Darren Cross confirmed Hank Pym was Ant-man
Cross had discovered secrets about the Pym particle in the companies old files, but his suspicions weren’t confirmed until old SHIELD files were made accessible. Old SHIELD files concerning Hank Pym being a member of SHIELD & an old film of Hank in his glory days. (Notice the SHIELD logo on the footage)
- 6. Without SHIELD, it affected the public perception of the Avengers & led to the Sokovia Accords
Theres no SHIELD to do clean up & PR. Theres no SHIELD so the government looks to someone else to fix these issues. The Avengers need a new agency to keep them in check. This leads to old General Thunderbolt Ross taking the reigns & Stark being responsible for cleaning up the bad press. All thanks to the ending of SHIELD & all of their secrets now being easily accessible.
- 7. It is why Baron Zemo was able to exploit the Winter Soldier
Why did Baron Zemo know about the red book? Why did Baron Zemo know about the Winter Soldiers? He began researching as the start to his revenge. He pieced it all together and came up with the master plan to split up the Avengers. Remember he had a list of Hydra contacts, from these his investigation led to him finding the video of Bucky killing Tony’s parents, it led to him finding the red book, which contained information on the other frozen Winter Soldiers.
A lot of these SHIELD secrets were most likely in code so it wasn’t gonna be decipherable to just anyone but once they were out there it led to many who would decipher this information.
When you add the Agents of SHIELD TV show. SHIELD ending is the biggest plot point in the whole show, many of the Hydra outputs they investigate is due to Black Widow exposing Hydra secrets which gave the team more information to tackle Hydra in the shadows. The organization would stay in hidden until after the events of Civil War when Jeffrey Mace becomes the spokesperson for SHIELD making SHIELD public again which is after all of these events.
