What was the most drawn-out naval battle?Originally Answered: What was the most drawn out naval battle?

In the early 1700s, two naval ships (Norwegian-Danish and Swedish, respectively) were caught in a duel that stretched on and on. They lobbed shots at each other, hitting each other's ships, taking damage.

This continued for a full 14 hours until one ship made a request.

Captain Wessel of the Norwegian-Danish ship essentially said, “I’m out of ammo, care to lend me some?”

The audacious request was denied, and they decided to go in opposite directions rather than sink each other's ships, but not before the two crews cheered each other and drank a round of beer. It was for the better, and the ship that still had ammo could have clearly sunk the other ship.

It was nice that they showed mercy toward them.
