He can’t come up with any good movie examples, so He’ll use a TV show as an example…
Shut up, Karen; potato potahto
Riverdale
Archie Andrews and Veronica Lodge
They’re 17. Juniors in high school. So am I. So aren’t my peers.
Now, does this:
Look anything like
this?
Methinks not.
KJ Apa is the actor who plays Archie; he’s 23. Camila Mendes plays Veronica, and she’s 25. Keep in mind, their characters are 17/18.
In the second, real-life example, the subjects are each 17/18.
They don’t look alike at all. The actual 17 year olds look like 10 year olds compared to the 24 year olds.
The way the film and TV industry portrays high schoolers is not how high schoolers are in reality. I get that movies aren’t supposed to be totally real, but you want it to be the least bit real so you could fool the average person, right?
This bothers me because TV portrays high schoolers like they’re already perfect and ready to enter the real world. Wrong.
In real life, many high schoolers are struggling with acne, aren’t as well-structured, and are at least a little shorter.
