Healthy diet starts with fruit, then towards cooked food and ends with sweet.

India is known as the fruit and vegetable basket of the world. We are primarily agrarian economy ranking second in agriculture production globally. We have good number of fruits and varieties cultivated throughout the year, there are lot of seasonal fruits we get in India, these are really delicious and tasty can never be missed. I am sure most of us wait for the specific seasons to buy these fruits and didn’t want to miss the chance. The fruits offer good nutrition value and promotes a good health.

The Indian ways of cooking and food preparation promotes healthy and natural ways of living. As an ancient culture, we have identified, promoted and classified food as Sattvic, Rajas and Tamas (that’s another topic of discussion). Our society has understood the benefits for eating nutritious food for a long time. Sometimes, our food itself acts as medicine for us such garlic, onion, cinnamon, honey so on. I like to taste our Indian food varieties as there are 100’s of food dishes and each state has multiple cuisines though might look similar but the preparation and ways of cooking are completely different.

For this article, I am writing mostly on South Indian food variety.

I am starting with fruit salad. Tough there are lot of varieties, I am mentioning few of them for this article.

Jackfruit - Another tasty fruit origination in Western ghats, the aroma of this fruit is so great. It has very low fat and protein with content high in carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Multiple dishes are made out this, chips with ripe and unripe , sambar, even seeds are made as pooriyal.

Gooseberry - Has so much of medicinal benefits. Can be consumed in raw form or as pickle and juice too.

You get a chance to watch GOT online for subscription you miss the chance this year will have to wait till next year to buy…it is that precious. There are so many varieties of Mango that perhaps each state in India may have its own - Alphonso, Badami, Sindura, Banganpalli, so on. Lot many dishes can be made with unriped mangoes - aam panna, pickle, chutney, sambar so on. With fruit you make lassi.

Honey - We have been using honey right from vedic period. Honey has so much health benefits and helps in weight loss when had early morning with hot water. Great source of carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals with very low fat and protein content. Best is to pour honey on fruit salad and taste it, gives extra taste.
