Well, I am from India and have been to New Delhi many times.
In New Delhi, most of the embassies are clustered around one district called Chanakyapuri which was designed specially as Embassy zone, named after the great master strategist and India’s Machiavellian- Chanakya.
I will list out top 5 Embassy buildings in New Delhi.
The most impressive Embassy in my country, that honor definitely goes to
Embassy of Belgium- New Delhi
The Belgium Embassy was designed by renowned Indian designer- Satish Gujral, who designed the facility inspired from the ancient Indus Valley civilization, particularly the citadel of Mohenjadro city, one of the celebrated ancient Indian city.
The whole construction was done in multiple layers of exposed red bricks and resemble more like a fortress of ancient city with no references to European or Indian architecture. Its being rated as one among 1000 Fine Art Buildings of 20th century and won several international awards.
2. Embassy of United States of America- New Delhi
US Embassies across the world are normally very impressive and New Delhi one is a clear fusion of American-Mughal-French architecture. I was baffled seeing the architecture marvel of American Embassy in New Delhi, especially after seeing US Embassy in Abu Dhabi which looks a military facility rather an embassy.
3. Pakistan High Commission- New Delhi
Pakistanis may not be loved by Indians in large, but their embassy in New Delhi is extremely eye-pleasing and grand structure. It straight away looks typical grand Mughal Buildings of Delhi with elements of Afghan-Persian architectural elements. In some ways, it looks a downgraded version of Taj Mahal too, as it incorporated lot of Mughal elements to this building and the superimposing Blue dome reminds of many similar mosque structures in Iran.
4. Singapore High Commission- New Delhi
Singapore’s High Commission is extra ordinary. Its Ultra modern and a piece of contemporary fine art with buildings mostly designed in sync with geometric shapes and water features that runs across the Embassy. Its been nominated for several top architectural awards.
5. Royal Bhutanese Embassy- New Delhi
Bhutan’s Embassy is definitely the classic specimen of pure Bhutanese architecture and it has absolute elements of its traditional values and cultural legacy. At first glance, it looks typical Bhutanese Temples or Palace in New Delhi with typical Far Eastern Architectural elements.
