Who was the MVP (“Most Valuable Player”) of Avengers: Endgame?

Well. . . I might surprise you with my answer. Not Captain America, Iron Man, or Hulk. Not even Ant-Man.

The MVP was definitely Doctor Strange.

He is the reason everything that happened in Endgame was possible. Even though he personally was limited to smaller bits in the final battle alone, his presence was felt throughout the movie.

  • Without him, Tony would be dead. That means no snap to kill Thanos & co., plus no one to accompany Nebula to earth and inform the Avengers.
  • Without him, the Ancient One would never have given up the Time Stone. It was only because she knew that he knew what he was doing that she did it. You can trust Strange.
  • Without him, the Avengers would have been flooded. That water in the final battle was no joke and could have turned the tide, but he managed to bring it under control.
  • Without him, the unsnapped heroes would have been dazed and ignorant of what to do. He mobilized them and brought them to Thanos.

But even that’s more recent stuff. If he hadn’t seen all those alternative futures, nothing would have ever happened. Thank goodness he is such a meticulous planner and was willing to spend so much time exploring ways to win.

Finally. . . Strange also saved the day by not telling anyone about what would happen. Just like Benedict Cumberbatch did in real life (he was the only actor given the entire script for Infinity War), he did not reveal any details, except that it was “the only way”.

That’s not easy. Imagine if you were in the biggest football game of the year, and you knew exactly how the team could win, but if you told your teammates it wouldn’t happen. Strange had that pressure times a thousand.

All he did was give Tony the final nudge he needed to do what he had to. And since I personally think Strange respected Tony, that was also probably pretty painful.

All in all, I think Doctor Strange was the MVP of Avengers: Endgame.
