Can radiation really give humans mutant powers like in comics?

Why don't you ask David Hahn, the boy who created a nuclear reactor in his garage? The only superpower he got was the ability to lose his hair and develop open sores...

Radiation effectively kills cells and bacteria and can cause cancer. It can cause numerous detrimental effects to the human body. You can also become sterile from radiation.

I think the birthplace of the 'mutant powers' myth arose from the fact that radiation increased the likelihood of genetic mutations in babies. However these weren't mutations such as super strength or being born with a hunger for human blood. These mutations often were deadly to babies or at least very detrimental to their life. If you don't have a weak constitution you could look up the various victims of radiation.
