India is believed to be predominantly vegetarian across the world. But about 30% of population is vegetarian which makes it the biggest vegetarian nation in the world. Notably, the states like Rajasthan and Gujarat are more imposed into the ideologies of religion and caste where vegetarianism is often assumed as a norm.
Some real interesting stuff can be seen from the map if you correlate it with the soil map of India. Those around the eastern coasts and ghats with more red soil tend to be meat eaters. The alluvial soil areas make up for greater vegetarian population (Also more religious places concentrated there)
The Number of vegetarians in a country is strongly related to cultural and/or religious traditions that may actively encourage vegetarianism.
