Sort of. It’s probably more accurate to say Star Wars’ take on feminism has changed over time.
The original Star Wars was Fair for Its Day
At the time, it was pretty badass to see Princess Leia essentially take command of her own rescue. She was no stereotypical damsel in distress.
But at the same time, Leia was the only woman in the Original Trilogy who was much of a character. The other women in the movies barely got any screen time.
And the Han/Leia romance comes off as Han not taking no for an answer in this scene.
I doubt any modern movie could get away with playing this off as a positive romance.
Modern Star Wars feminism is different. After the Original Trilogy, we see female Jedi.

We see female bounty hunters.
And in the sequel trilogy, we have a young woman who’s the Force-sensitive protagonist.
Star Wars has been pumping out stories for decades. It’s always been feminist, but a modern Star Wars story is going to be way different in its feminism than a movie series from the late 70s-early 80s.
