Few general tips to help you select the right plot to build a house are:
· With your family’s health in mind, make sure the plot is away from air and noise pollution as well as traffic.
· To ensure your family’s safety, your plot should not be prone to earthquakes and flooding.
· The plot should have the provision for basic utilities like electricity, water, sewage and garbage disposal.
· Test the water in the soil. Do not forget this step; hire a licensed civil engineer to carry out this test to ensure that the land itself is suitable for building your home.
· Make sure that your plot has easy accessibility to the main road.
· In the future, it will be convenient for you and your family if your plot is easily connected to schools, public transport and hospitals.
· Avoid legal issues in the future by making sure that the plot is free of encroachment or any other litigation's.
As per vaastu, land should be chosen based on the following points:
· Select site that is oriented to the cardinal directions i.e. north, east, south or west.
· Square and rectangular plots are good for constructions.
· Avoid triangular, circular, oval and other irregular shaped plots.
· Plot with north-east corner extended brings health, prosperity, name and fame.
· Plot with extension in east brings good name and fame, but not good for financial progress.
· South-East extension on east and also on south should be avoided.
· West-north extension on the western side brings health and prosperity whereas north-west extension on the north should be avoided.
· Avoid plots with south-west extension.
· North-east corner plots having roads on north and east is considered good.
· Corner plots with roads on south-east, north-west, south-west should be avoided as far as possible. However, if it is unavoidable to construct in such sites the principles of vaastu shall have to be followed to minimize or eliminate the ill effects.
